Summary

VESA Based Floating Speaker is a monitor-arm speaker system that lifts desktop audio off the desk. Using a VESA-compatible mount, it frees workspace and lets users adjust height, angle, and distance for a personalized near-field listening experience.

Description

As modern desks become crowded with monitors, keyboards, chargers, and devices, conventional speakers still occupy valuable surface space and remain fixed in limited positions. VESA Based Floating Speaker rethinks desktop audio by mounting the speaker on a VESA-compatible monitor arm. The floating structure keeps the desk clear while allowing users to adjust height, angle, and distance according to their posture, monitor setup, and listening preference. A central magnetic phone interface supports charging, playback control, and glanceable information, integrating audio, display, and workspace organization into one refined desk object.

Dock the phone at the center of the speaker.

The central MagSafe surface becomes both a charging and docking position. A screen and charging function are brought into the audio object so essential information stays in one place.

Adjusting the angle of the VESA Based Floating Speaker by hand02

Adjust rotation and listening angle.

The monitor arm's joints allow the speaker to switch between horizontal and vertical orientations and turn toward the listener. It adapts to posture and display layout without occupying the desk surface.

Exploded assembly of the aluminum shell and internal components03

Different fabrication methods complete the structure.

The laser-cut aluminum shell provides a thin, rigid profile while 3D-printed parts align the speaker and charging modules. Adjustment and operation were verified in the prototype; the project was recognized as a 2026 K-Design Award Finalist and selected by the Korea Design Exhibition.

BUILD EVIDENCE / WORKING PROTOTYPE

A working product, not a render-only proposal.

The physical prototype records a phone attaching to the central charging surface and the speaker rotating horizontally and vertically along the monitor arm to suit the workspace and listening direction.
